Course Overview
The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course is the best way for you to learn the basics of pistol shooting. During the online portion (phase I) you will learn:
- Essential gun safety rules
- Different types of pistols and which one is best for you
- The basics of ammunition
- The fundamentals of pistol shooting
- Different shooting positions
- The most common shooting errors
- Proper gun cleaning and maintenance
- How to maintain your skills
The online portion is paid directly to the NRA and you can enroll for the online class at NRA Leaning Website. The current price for the online portion is $60 (Jan 2020) Once you complete the online portion, you will be given a pin, that is needed for enrolling in the remaining portion of the class.
Enroll the instructor led portion at NRA Website and select "NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting - Blended" and in the Search box at the bottom, enter the zip code for Beale "95901". You need to register online with the NRA and here on BadMoonShooting to enroll in this class.
Several of the above areas may be skipped by scoring a 100% during a chapter per test.
It is best to start the online portion of the class several weeks before start of the range portion, to allow adequate time to complete.
You MUST complete the online portion of the class, or you will not be allowed to attend the range portion. Additionally, failure to complete the online portion prior to the start of the range portion will result of forfeiture of your deposit.
Once you complete the Self Learning Module and printed your certificate, a Personal Identification Number (PIN) will be activated. You will need to use your user id (email address) and PIN to sign up for the Shooting portion.
The Shooting portion (Phase II) lasts about 5 hours. The shooting portion covers a single action revolver, a double action revolver and a semi-auto pistols. The pistols, ammunition, eye and ear protection are all provided for you. You may bring your own eye & ear protection if you desire. You may bring your own pistol, but you will need to provide your own ammo for your pistol.
The Shooting portion will teach you how to clean a pistol, various shooting positions, how-to properly grip, aim a pistol, and shoot a pistol. You will shoot around 100 rounds. The NRA Safety rules will be covered and enforced during the course. At the end of the class, you will be able to shoot a qualification course for NRA Certification.
Phase II is taught on Beale AFB, which requires access to a Military Base. If you do not have a Base Pass, Military ID or a Veteran's Card, you must contact the instructor to arrange for a base pass. Possession of a Real ID driver's License is preferred. In the event Beale AFB increases it's security posture, the class will either be postponed to a later date, or cancelled (and is beyond our control). In the event of a cancellation, the NRA portion of the class cannot be refunded.
