Course Overview
Night Shoot! How good are your night sights? Do you even have night sights? How effective is a laser on your pistol? Do you have a weapon mounted light? Do you know how to use a flashlight and a pistol? These are all topics that are discussed, and you learn first hand of what works and what doesn't. Learn how to operate your pistol during low light/no light operations. There will be a very little classroom, most of the time is on the range. Dress accordingly for the weather, the class will be held even if weather is cold and wet. This is NOT a beginner class.
Student should be able to safely draw from a holster and perform magazine/change reload, without difficulty. Revolver shooters, should be able to use speed loaders, moon clips or speed strips in a low light/no light condition. Crossdraw and shoulder holsters are not allowed. Pocket, ankle and purse holsters are also not allowed.
You will need a small hand held flashlight, ie surefire or streamlight, 100 - 300, 1000 lumens. You will need a Pistol and holster, and at least two magazines/speed loaders (3 is better). Pistol maybe 22LR to 45acp. Eye and Ear protection is required, electronic ear protection is suggested. Plan on 150 rounds of target ammo. Spare batteries for your flashlight is a good idea. If you have a weapon mounted light, the flashlight is still required. Weapon mounted lasers may be used. Weapon mounted lasers are allowed. We will discuss/explain the difference between lumen and candela, why both are desired. We will present several hand held flashlight techniques, such as the Harries, FBI, Chin index, etc. You will be expected to try the different handheld techniques, and decide which is best for you. You will also learn why you should have a handheld flashlight even when you have a weapon mounted light on your carry pistol.
** Additional: If you have a CCW, bring some of your carry ammo, to see the difference in the muzzle flash between your practise and your carry ammo. Helps explain why carry ammo is so expensive.
