Terms & Privacy Policy

Bad Moon Shooting ("Bad Moon Shooting," "we," "us," or "our") provides firearms training and Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) certification classes in Northern California. This page explains what personal information we collect from students, how we use it, and the terms of our text (SMS) messaging program. It applies to our website, our in-person enrollment process, and our class reminder text messages.

By registering for a class, providing your information at enrollment, or opting in to receive text messages from us, you agree to the practices described below.

Information We Collect

When You Register and Pay Online

To enroll in a class through our website, we require your email address, which is collected when you complete your online payment. Your payment card is processed directly by our payment processor, Stripe; Bad Moon Shooting's servers never receive or store your full card number.

We use your email address to send your training certificate, class updates, and the student data survey described below. If you walk in and register on the first day of class instead of registering online, we ask that you provide your email address at that time for the same reasons. If you do not provide an email address, we cannot email you a certificate, class updates, or the student data survey.

When You Enroll In Person

Some information is collected on paper at enrollment, or in the student data survey sent after you enroll, rather than through our website:

  • Name. Required to issue a training certificate. Without it, we cannot issue you a certificate.
  • County of residence (CCW classes only). Required so we can qualify you on the correct course of fire for your county and issue a certificate valid for your CCW issuing authority. Without it, we cannot issue a correct certificate.
  • Firearm make, model, caliber, and serial number (CCW classes only). Required so your certificate lists the correct firearm information for submission to your county's CCW issuing authority. Without it, we cannot issue a correct certificate.
  • Phone number (requested, not required). We ask for a phone number so your instructor can reach you about changes to your class. If you don't provide one, you'll need to rely on email for updates.

Classes Held on Beale Air Force Base

If your class is held on Beale Air Force Base and you are not affiliated with the military, you must provide your name, date of birth, the state that issued your ID or driver's license, and Social Security number so we can request a base pass on your behalf. This information is submitted to Beale's 9th Security Forces for that purpose only. If you don't provide it, we cannot obtain a base pass for you and you will not be able to attend the class; because that outcome results from information you didn't provide, no refund will be issued in that situation.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information described above to:

  • Issue and re-issue training certificates
  • Send you class updates and changes
  • Send the student data survey after you enroll
  • Qualify you on the correct course of fire for your county (CCW classes)
  • Prepare paperwork required by your CCW issuing authority (CCW classes)
  • Request a base pass on your behalf (Beale AFB classes)
  • Communicate with you about your upcoming class

Text Message (SMS) Program

If you provide a phone number, we may ask: "Do you consent to receiving a text message from Bad Moon Shooting reminding you of your upcoming class? Msg & data rates may apply."

  • What you'll receive. If you say yes, you'll get one text message the day before your class as a reminder. This is a one-time message per class you enroll in — we don't send any other automated text messages.
  • Person-to-person messages. Separately, you and your instructor may text each other directly, for example if you have a question before class. Message and data rates may apply to these messages as well.
  • Message frequency. Up to one automated reminder per class enrollment.
  • Cost. Message and data rates may apply, depending on your mobile carrier and plan.
  • Consent is not required. You do not have to opt in to text messages to enroll in a class or to purchase anything from us. If you don't opt in, you'll still receive a reminder email the Wednesday before your class.
  • How to opt out. You can decline at enrollment, or reply STOP to any text message to opt out at any time. Reply HELP for help.
  • We do not share your mobile information. No mobile information collected as part of this text messaging program will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. This does not apply to Twilio, our text messaging platform, which sends messages on our behalf, or to aggregators and carriers involved in delivering the messages.

Opting in or out of text reminders does not affect our cancellation policy — if you need to cancel a class, please do so with enough notice, or your deposit may be forfeited regardless of how you were reminded.

CCW Renewal Reminder Emails

If you complete a CCW class with us, we will send you a one-time reminder email roughly two years later (three years for classes completed on or after January 1, 2027) letting you know your permit is coming up for renewal, along with information about upcoming classes. This is currently the only marketing email we send. We do not share, rent, or sell your email address to anyone else.

Who We Share Information With

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes. We share limited information with the following, solely to provide our services:

  • Stripe, our payment processor, to process online payments.
  • Mailgun, our email service provider, which handles the content and recipient address of the certificates, updates, surveys, and reminder emails we send you.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile, a bot-protection service that processes browser signals and a verification token to help prevent spam. Its script loads on every page of our site, though the interactive challenge itself only appears on our contact form.
  • Laravel Nightwatch, an application performance monitoring service, to help us monitor site performance, uptime, and errors. It automatically records technical details about each page request — such as the page visited, response time, and your IP address — but does not capture the content of forms you submit.
  • Twilio, our text messaging platform, to deliver the class reminder text described above, if you opted in.
  • Beale AFB's 9th Security Forces, for non-military students attending a class on base, solely to request a base pass.

How Long We Keep Information

Name, county of residence, and firearm data are retained for as long as necessary to serve the purposes they were collected for, primarily so you can request a replacement training certificate. You can ask us to delete this information at any time (see "Your Choices" below).

Phone numbers collected at enrollment are used, and retained, only for as long as needed to communicate with you about your upcoming class; we don't keep them for any other purpose afterward.

Sensitive personal data collected only for a Beale AFB base pass — Social Security number, driver's license/ID information, and date of birth — is collected on paper, is not entered into our online systems, and it is our practice to securely dispose of these paper records after each class. This information is provided only to 9th Security Forces for the base pass request; we don't retain it for any other purpose.

Cookies

Our website uses standard session cookies needed for basic site functionality, such as keeping your registration in progress while you complete checkout. We use Cloudflare Turnstile to help prevent spam on our contact form; its script loads on every page, though the interactive challenge itself only appears on the contact form. We do not currently use advertising or analytics tracking cookies on our website. Separately from cookies, our server-side performance monitoring tool (Laravel Nightwatch, described above) records technical details about site requests to help us keep the site running reliably.

Our website does not currently respond to "Do Not Track" browser signals.

Your Choices

You can ask us at any time to tell you what information we have on file about you, correct it, or delete it, by contacting us using the information below. Because training certificates rely on accurate records, we may need to keep certain information — like your name, county, and firearm data — to be able to reissue a certificate on request.

Cancellations and Refunds

If you fail to cancel your class in a timely manner, your class deposit may be forfeited. If you are attending a class on Beale Air Force Base and do not receive a base pass because you did not provide the information required by 9th Security Forces, no refund will be issued, as that outcome is not within our control.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example as our text messaging program or class offerings change. We'll update the effective date above when we do. Continuing to enroll in our classes or respond to our messages after a change means you accept the updated policy.
